Behind every rifle, shelf of manuals, field notebook, hunting jacket, military relic, or worn leather pouch is often a lifetime of accumulated experience, knowledge, and memory. In many cases, families are left with collections they may not fully understand —uncertain of their history, significance, legal requirements, or where they truly belong.
Our role is not simply to “move items on.”
Where possible, our goal is to help preserve history, provenance, and the stories attached to it.

And when that person is gone, families are often left standing in front of a shed, library, workshop, or gun safe unsure of what they are actually looking at, why it mattered, or what should happen next.

At Raptor Outfitters, one half of our background comes from longstanding involvement within the world of military firearms, collecting, historical equipment, and the wider network of collectors and specialists both within New Zealand and internationally. The value in these communities is often not purely financial — it comes from understanding provenance, rarity, craftsmanship, historical significance, and connecting items with the people who genuinely appreciate them.
Through longstanding involvement within sporting shooting associations, collecting circles, and wider historical communities, we have personally assisted families and individuals navigating the transition of collections following loss, downsizing, or estate management. Over time, this has created a genuine desire to help others through what can often be an overwhelming and emotionally difficult process.
Part of that desire comes from wanting to help preserve the stories and significance behind these collections, and part comes from a deep personal interest in the observation of history itself — the understanding that collections are often far more than objects alone. They are reflections of curiosity, identity, craftsmanship, service, memory, and a lifetime of accumulated knowledge and passion.
The other half comes from a deep appreciation for tradition, preservation, storytelling, and the belief that skills, tools, books, and objects that have stood the test of time deserve consideration before quietly disappearing into landfill, second-hand bins, or forgotten storage.
Sometimes the old manuals matter just as much as the firearms beside them.
Sometimes the notes tucked inside a book tell more of the story than the item itself.
Sometimes a worn hunting jacket or field diary says more about a person than anything expensive ever could.
We believe collections deserve more than being reduced to “a pile of old things.”
In a world increasingly built around mass consumerism and disposable goods, there is something meaningful about objects that were cared for, repaired, studied, carried, and preserved across generations.
Not everything will hold significant monetary value.
